AGE RANGE: I’d say 12+
SUMMARY: After a young girl’s village is raided by skinless men (aka colonizers), she finds herself aboard a slave ship. However, although she experiences brutality and despair, she finds hope in the words and presence of a young child who reminds her that strength is physical and spiritual, and it manifests in many ways and in many people. .
WHAT I LIKE: I loved this novelette because there was so much packed into the 46 or so pages. I learned about the complexities of the main character; I got a feel for the child who supports her; I even got a lot of information on Olu, a sailor on the ship who reminds me of Stephen in Django. This is such a great story, and I wanted more!
1 - I wouldn't recommend it
