SUMMARY: When Binti Ekeopara Zuzu Dambu Kaipka of Namib, a 15-year-old Himba girl, earns a scholarship to an interplanetary university for her mathematical prowess, she becomes one of the first to leave her home to begin a journey that she and the reader could never anticipate. Filled with commentary on racism, appropriation, and colonialism as well as heritage, friendship, and courage, this book is packed with a lot of material in less than 100 pages.
WHAT I LIKED: I loved Binti’s character, and I greatly enjoyed the relationship she formed with Okwu, one of the Meduse that took over the spaceship to the university. I do, however, feel as though the climax could have been more... climactic, and I think the conflict was solved rather quickly. Of course, there are two more novellas!
